Title ︎︎︎ Structure
“With the project I've submitted, Structure, I examine the quiet and persistent ways human design weaves itself into the natural world. Rather than centering the obvious, I’m drawn to the subtler architectural interventions we often accept as benign: fences cutting through fields, posts marking borders, small constructions meant to guide, divide, or stabilize. These structures appear orderly and harmless, yet they reveal the complexities and contradictions of how we impose ourselves onto the landscape.

Beauty plays a central role in how I approach these scenes. I’m compelled by the moments where beauty and disruption coexist, where our presence blends almost seamlessly with nature, but not without consequence. These are the interventions we rarely question because they look functional, thoughtful, even necessary. Yet their quietness is precisely what makes them worth examining. They speak to the subtler errors in our ways: the belief that small alterations carry no weight, that structure can be introduced without changing the character of a place.

Through photographing these built elements, I explore the ways we not only intervene in the landscape but also mimic it. Creating lines, shapes, and boundaries that echo natural forms while ultimately asserting human control. The work asks a simple but complicated question: can nature be structured, and should it be? By isolating these moments, Structure invites viewers to reconsider the everyday impositions we overlook, and to reflect on how our desire for order reshapes the environments we claim to admire.
