Central to my work is the concept of Urban Subduction Zones, a metaphor I use to describe how historical and cultural geographic layers are subsumed by the constant push of modern development, much like the dynamics of tectonic plates in a geological subduction zone. This analogy not only highlights the creative and destructive nature of urban transformation but also underscores the building tensions between preservation and progress, decay and renewal, rich and poor that define the character of city landscapes and the resulting social dynamics.
Through photography I seek to unearth and preserve temporal artifacts in order to employ them as powerful symbols in a visual dialogue about the physical and metaphysical flux of shared spaces and histories. The resulting artworks are intimate discoveries as well as intentional statements in a broader discourse on the complexities of heritage, identity, and sustainability in the built environment. They reflect on how urban development practices not only reshape our cities but also echo the broader, often detrimental impacts on ecological systems.
